Bruce Willis stars as FBI Special Agent Tom Greer in this action packed Sci-Fi thriller. In the near distant future people don’t actually live their own lives, they send out their Surrogates to work and play for them. Surrogates are robots that you control with your mind while you are in the comfort of your own home. Someone has a new weapon that kills the Surrogates and their human alter ego at the same time. Willis ,through his surrogate, must find out why the son of the inventor of the technology behind the surrogates was killed.
This is an interesting story, but it almost seems like it could have been played out as part of an hour long episode of the X-Files. The movie explores the superficial nature of humans in the near future. They look perfect, but they don’t live perfect lives. You’ll see Bruce Willis like you’ve never seen him before. The Surrogate Willis has perfect skin and long flowing hair. It is a little odd that nearly everyone in the movie is an idealized version of themselves, but Willis looks the same.
This wasn’t the greatest film, but as a rental it was well worth the money. The acting was okay, the special effects were cool, and the story was just fresh enough to keep you wanting to know what would happen next.
I give it four stars.
